American Black Cherry
Prunus serotina
Imported HardwoodNorth America: Eastern United States
Also known as: Cherry, Wild Cherry
Appearance
American Cherry heartwood is light pinkish-brown when freshly cut, darkening to a rich reddish-brown with age and light exposure. The grain is straight and fine with a smooth, satiny texture. The colour transformation over time is one of its most valued characteristics.
Workability
Cherry is easy to work with and machines to a very smooth finish. It takes stain and clear finishes beautifully, though many prefer to let the natural colour develop over time. Pre-drilling recommended near edges. A classic American cabinet-making timber.
