Red Grandis

Eucalyptus grandis

Imported HardwoodOriginally Australian: now primarily imported from South American plantations (Uruguay, Brazil)

Also known as: Grandis, Rose Gum, Flooded Gum

Appearance

Grandis heartwood is pink to red-brown in colour, with paler sapwood. The grain is straight to slightly interlocked with a moderately coarse, even texture. It has a warm, attractive character with natural insect trails and pinholes that add visual interest. Plantation-grown Grandis tends to be lighter and more uniform.

Workability

Grandis is easy to work with both hand and machine tools. It carves and turns well, making it suitable for fine furniture and specialised applications. It takes stain and clear finishes readily. Widely used in the plywood industry and increasingly popular for plantation-sourced structural and appearance-grade products.
