Kapur
Dryobalanops spp.
Imported HardwoodSoutheast Asia: Malaysia, Indonesia, Borneo
Also known as: Keladan, Borneo Camphorwood
Appearance
Kapur heartwood is reddish-brown with a fairly straight or slightly interlocked grain. The texture is moderately coarse but even. It has a distinctive camphor-like scent when freshly cut. The timber darkens slightly with age and exposure.
Workability
Kapur works reasonably well with both hand and machine tools, though the interlocked grain can cause tearout on radial surfaces. It accepts finishes adequately and holds fastenings well due to its density. A practical structural timber with good durability.
