LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber)
Engineered product — typically Radiata Pine veneers
EngineeredManufactured in Australia and internationally
Also known as: Laminated Veneer Lumber, Engineered Beam
Appearance
LVL is manufactured by bonding thin layers of wood veneer together under heat and pressure, with the grain of each layer running in the same direction. The result is a consistent, straight-grained structural member that is stronger and more predictable than sawn timber of equivalent dimensions.
Workability
LVL machines and cuts cleanly with standard carpentry tools. It can be drilled, nailed, and bolted using conventional techniques. Available in long lengths and large cross-sections that are not achievable with sawn timber. Major Australian brands include Wesbeam and Metsa.
