Damar Minyak
Agathis dammara
SoftwoodSouth-East Asia and the western Pacific, including Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines
Also known as: East Indian Kauri, Indonesian Kauri, Agathis borneensis
Appearance
The heartwood is a pale yellowish brown, sometimes carrying a faint pinkish tinge, and the sapwood is usually hard to tell apart from it. The grain is generally straight with a very fine, even texture and little or no figure. Boards often come through clear and free of knots, which gives a quiet, uniform look.
Workability
Damar Minyak machines and finishes very well thanks to its low to moderate density and straight grain. It glues soundly and holds screws and nails with good resistance to splitting. The wood is stable in service, with low radial and moderate tangential shrinkage.
